Esty Shushan / About
Esty Shushan is an Orthodox Jewish public figure, artist, filmmaker, poet, and podcaster.
She is the founder and CEO of Nivcharot, an Israeli organization promoting women's rights and representation in the ultra-Orthodox community. For years, she has been active in media, politics, and education — working to make space for women's voices in places where they’ve been silenced.
Alongside her activism, Esty creates visual art. Her work includes illustrated posters in Hebrew, minimalist portraits of rabbinic figures cut from iron, and statement t-shirts with Jewish-Israeli themes. Her series Past Forward imagines historical Jewish icons holding smartphones or taking selfies — a quiet but sharp commentary on memory, culture, and identity.
All artworks are available in her Etsy shop – EstyShushan
She is also the creator and host of Spoken Haredi, a podcast featuring conversations with people driving change within Haredi society — open, honest, and uncensored.
Esty has received several awards for her work, including the Sami Michael Prize for Social Change, the Rappaport Prize for Women’s Leadership, and the Minister of Culture’s Poetry Prize for her poetry debut book.
She lives between words and images, between tradition and personal voice, always looking for the point where things meet — and sometimes collide.
